School Science Expo 2015

Yesterday we hosted our first whole school Science Expo and what a huge success it was! Each class had science demonstrations happening, the Junior room had interactive water cycles, clouds in a jar, droplets on coins, floating paper clips and wind vanes.
The Middle class had a good range of experiments and investigations and the students could talk about the science happening in their experiment such as the chemical reactions happening in Magic Milk, bubbles in a jar, how optical illusions work and an invisible jar.
The Senior Class also science demonstrations in their class, they included experiments such as seesaw candle, densities, powered boats and vibrations from a speaker causing movement.
Eight students have been selected to participate in the South Otago Science Expo being held at Kaitangata School next week, they will share their science and get to learn from other students across the district.

Science Expo
15 September 2016

On 15 September we held a school science expo, there were groups of two throughout the school who did a display of a science experiment to middles, Juniors, parents and seniors. I was partnered up with Laytun and we did our experiment called ‘Balloon Kebabs’ where you push a kebab stick through a balloon but you have to make sure that you do it in the right place or it won’t work because the rubbers too thin. It works because the point of the skewer is being protected by the thick rubber at both ends of the balloon so it goes right through instead of popping at the sides.
Check our this link to see it in action:

Yesterday on the 15th of September we had the 2016 Warepa School Science expo. Everyone from the school was included even the Juniors. We split up into pairs and chose a science experiment to do then we wrote up what we did, how we did it and the science behind it.
The whole school split into two groups - group A and group B. Group A showed their science experiments first while group B looked at other people’s experiments. Then at 1:45 we swapped over. Everyone had amazing experiments and we all had a fun day!

Camp Reflections on Goals

Camp Wanaka Goals 2016

I think I was successful in achieving my goals: like learning how to ski and being able to go down McDougalls or Skyline without falling over.
I also had a lot of fun on camp with the camp parents teachers and my peers. I managed to not lose anything and had everything where and when I needed it. My last goal I think I achieved the best because I learnt a lot about the weather went and learnt how weather has a massive effect on Wanaka and different companies and their jobs.

Camp Reflection

Outdoor reflection:
I learnt to ski and I did not die.
I had heaps of fun snowboarding, the snow was really powdery and deep. Rock climbing was great, we got to climb up a variety of different walls and once we got to the top we let go and the lowering system let us down.
Relationship Reflection:
I got to know my classmates better because we had to sit at different tables and beside someone different each night at tea time.
Responsibility Reflection:
I did all of my jobs really well and I organised my clothes for each day and didn't lose any belongings while at camp.
Education Reflection:
I learnt heaps about the weather and how it affects jobs, air transport and search and rescue.

Camp Wanaka Goals 2016
I was successful in achieving most of my Camp Wanaka  goals but I did not get to the top of every climbing wall, but I attempted them all with great confidence. I made excellent connections with my classmates that I would not usually make connections with because we got to spend so much time together and also we had to play musical seats at tea time, sitting beside different people each meal. I did not lose my clothes apart from my goggles but Mrs Wilson found them, thank goodness. I did not sleep in AND I went to sleep at an appropriate time.
I think that I participated in everything with effort and great confidence.
I definitely have a greater understanding of the weather systems now. The talks really helped me understand that.

Reflection of Camp Wanaka 2016

With my outdoors goal, I was to get a hole in one but it didn’t happen, instead I got a hole in two.
My relationship goal was to learn something new about the people in my bunk room, I did learn something new about them, Tom snores but I do to so it doesn't matter, and Lukin is afraid of heights.
My responsibility goal was to clean dishes properly but I didn’t do the dishes, instead I put them away in there cupboards.
With my educational goal was to have a better idea of the types of helicopters. I learnt that there are different types of helicopters for different weather and rescues.

My Personal Camp Goals Reflection 2016

My Outdoor goal was to be confident in all activities. I achieved this because even though I didn’t do many activities I still participated in all. I enjoyed everything I did and completed the activities.

My relationship goal was to interact with others and get to know people. I did interact with all my classmates, all comments may not of been nice. I learn’t a few new things about my classmates like what they like to do. but not a much I had thought.

My Responsibility goal was to participate in all duties. I tried to be involved, so I put away cutlery. I still called that helping and I did my part for the group!

My educational goal was to learn about how the weather affects the people in Wanaka and their jobs. I learnt that all the jobs that involved flying are affected by the wind and cloud. At the search and rescue the cold, rainy, snowy and icey weather affects the rescue.
