Athletics 2016

ATHLETICS

Clap, goes the clappers! I start to sprint I’m racing against other schools, I’m trying to win. I can hear everyone yelling “Go Taylah!” I’m smiling with glee as I cross the finish line coming 1st place. I am so puffed Mrs A, Mrs B and Mrs Hyslop were at the end jumping up and down like turtles. I got my name written down, I was then off to high jump. Evie, Zoe and I were the last girls to jump because we were the only ones that jumped 95 centimetres and everyone else missed and knocked the bar. Us girls made it in for SOPSSA.

Athletics
On Wednesday 24 February, Athletics was on.
I really confused myself whether to do the 1500m or not. I finally made my decisions to run it.
On your marks, get set, GO! The light went green and I was racing! I was in the inside lane so I knew I had a good chance of winning.
I had to run 3 and 3 quarters of a lap.

I had done it! Puffed and sore and tired. I thought about doing it next year. But NO!

Athletics
A sea of light blue tops spread across the High School grounds, all sprinting to win the race. We were all so determined to win-nothing could get in our way! I crossed the finish line huffing and puffing so pleased with myself that I had come first in my race. I sat down in the shade my face bright red from running so fast. We all had a great day and enjoyed ourselves.

Self Portraits

In week one, each of us created Helen Galler self portraits. We had to us warm and cool colours. Now if you are wondering what warm and cool colours are, well warm colours make you feel warm like red, yellow and orange and cool colours make you feel cool like green, purple and blue. We had to either use warm colours for our faces and necks and cool colours for our hair and t-shirts. It was really fun learning all about warm colours and cool colours and what the differences are. We all worked really hard and showed Warepa Learner Qualities to make all of our portraits and they also look awesome. Our Helen Galler self portraits are in the senior room and if you want to come and see them just duck into the Senior Room for a few minutes. Here are a few photos of them.

Athletics Practice!

Athletics Practice!

Small Schools Athletics is coming up in week 4 and we are ready for the day!
We have practiced high jump, long jump, shot put, discus and sprints.
We will also be doing the flying squad which is a relay with teams from your school.
Greer, the new sports activator came on Monday to do some athletics in preparation for the big day. For a start we played a game of rob the nest to warm up. Then we did a mixture of things like shot put, high jump on both legs and also some obstacle courses. We have all enjoyed having her and hope she will stay for a long time!

Volcano Writing

Today we talk about the Christchurch earthquake and how the residents would be feeling after the most recent one. Then we looked at the picture below and imagined ourselves to be observing the volcano.  Our story needed to be descriptive and we used lots of verbs to show how things were moving.

The beast had awoken bellowing red hot lava out of  it. Smoke smothered the Earth's landscape,  lightning striking like a snake attacking its’ prey. I look over at Mum and just burst into tears, our house was gone, everything we had worked towards was gone. It was all gone!

Newspaper Challenge

3.2.16

On Wednesday Mrs Hyslop gave each the four Reading groups a challenge, the challenge was to make clothes out of newspaper in only 15 minutes.

We were only allowed:
  • 3 metres of masking tape
  • 6 sheets of newspaper
  • 1 pair of scissors

We each had one model from each group that we had to design the clothes on.
Some people had crowns others helmets, dresses, skirts, shoes and accessories.

At the end the models had to walk down a cat walk and be judged by Mrs Hyslop on
Style, Durability and Teamwork. At the end Evie's team won.
It was a good team work challenge.
