Rippa Turns Fun

I didn’t want to really want to go to Rippa but I didn’t get a choice, I stepped out of the car and there it was, billion’s of kids talking and making such a fuss, not too sure what about but it was horrendous anyway.

This horrific, loud and screechy noise started, what could it be I thought? It was Mitch telling us something.

Romahapa were there standing in front of us, I was frozen, I heard the ground crunch for each step I took, no tries scored by me, probably because I just stood there watching my team get tries, that's how cold I was. Finally I was warm still in a t- shirt and I scored 2 tries, the next game I got 1 but why was I so warm?
"Turns out Rippa isn't that bad," I said to Mrs Hyslop.
''See I told you so!'' she replied.
Hopefully it is not that cold next year!!!!

Holmdene Visit

Holmdene Visit 24th May
Most of the Senior and Middle Class visited Holmdene for the third week in a row. The residents smile at us when we get there and some even remember us from the week before and are excited to see us.
Some of us spend time with the elderly in the lounges and others go with Tennielle to talk with people who are in their rooms.
They often say, “that’s amazing, we didn’t do that when we were at school.”
They think we do great work at Warepa School and love listening to us read our work to them.

When we are there the time seems to go so fast.
They were asking us some questions and they were very interested in our work. On the first week I told Mrs A that “I felt that I won first prize.” Now it makes me feel happy that the elderly look forward to us coming and are happy and interested in what we are sharing, I think we make their day.

We were reading our publish writing books to the elderly and they were all so very interested in how neat we drew and coloured. We have been to Holmdene three times now and we have been making new friends every time. It makes me feel very happy. We all enjoyed doing this because we got to spend time to learn about the elderly and then we told them a bit about us. Most of their comments were like,”that’s awesome” and  “you have a twin?”

Good Sorts Inquiry

This term our Inquiry is called "Good Sorts", it is based around those people in our community who volunteer in some way or another. We have had the opportunity to experience giving back to our wider community ourselves by visiting the residents of Holmdene where we have read stories, shown our art and writing and even shown them our class blog. They are most interested in what we get up to at school and how things have changed since they went to school.
It has been a humbling experience to visit the residents and it seems we are all getting something out of our visits.
Good Sorts is a school-wide Inquiry topic, this is the slide we shared at Assembly last week.
