Here is a piece of writing from Lucy:
I stare at the water, waiting. I know I must be patient, but I’m starting to grow bored. The wind bites at my skin, and makes my hair seem like it has a mind of its own. I watch, annoyed, as the sneaky fish take it in turns to dart forwards and nibble the bait. But they all fail to get hooked. I jerk it up and down as they swim forward, but it doesn’t work. There is still a little bait on my hook. One fish decides to be brave. But it wasn’t the best option. It swims forward and tries to grab the rest of the bait, but i pull the line up at just the right time. The hook gets caught in its skin, and it then realises it's in trouble. It won’t give up without a fight. It begins to struggle as I pull it up. Water sprays my face as the fish comes out into the air. It flips around for a few seconds, then stops. I wrap my hand around the fish to get the hook out. I grab the hook and pull it. It comes out. I decide to let the fish live, and lower it towards the water. It decides to get payback and bites my finger. I drop it in surprise. Whoops. The fish forgets how to swim. I watch as it sinks to the bottom.
Amazing, you are all so lucky. Thanks heaps to our wonderful teachers , especially to Mrs Hyslop the teacher in charge, our parents and Mr Ward for making your camp so special. Also a huge thanks to our Warepa School Support Group for helping make this experience affordable for all.
