Rippa Turns Fun

I didn’t want to really want to go to Rippa but I didn’t get a choice, I stepped out of the car and there it was, billion’s of kids talking and making such a fuss, not too sure what about but it was horrendous anyway.

This horrific, loud and screechy noise started, what could it be I thought? It was Mitch telling us something.

Romahapa were there standing in front of us, I was frozen, I heard the ground crunch for each step I took, no tries scored by me, probably because I just stood there watching my team get tries, that's how cold I was. Finally I was warm still in a t- shirt and I scored 2 tries, the next game I got 1 but why was I so warm?
"Turns out Rippa isn't that bad," I said to Mrs Hyslop.
''See I told you so!'' she replied.
Hopefully it is not that cold next year!!!!

Holmdene Visit

Holmdene Visit 24th May
Most of the Senior and Middle Class visited Holmdene for the third week in a row. The residents smile at us when we get there and some even remember us from the week before and are excited to see us.
Some of us spend time with the elderly in the lounges and others go with Tennielle to talk with people who are in their rooms.
They often say, “that’s amazing, we didn’t do that when we were at school.”
They think we do great work at Warepa School and love listening to us read our work to them.

When we are there the time seems to go so fast.
They were asking us some questions and they were very interested in our work. On the first week I told Mrs A that “I felt that I won first prize.” Now it makes me feel happy that the elderly look forward to us coming and are happy and interested in what we are sharing, I think we make their day.

We were reading our publish writing books to the elderly and they were all so very interested in how neat we drew and coloured. We have been to Holmdene three times now and we have been making new friends every time. It makes me feel very happy. We all enjoyed doing this because we got to spend time to learn about the elderly and then we told them a bit about us. Most of their comments were like,”that’s awesome” and  “you have a twin?”

Good Sorts Inquiry

This term our Inquiry is called "Good Sorts", it is based around those people in our community who volunteer in some way or another. We have had the opportunity to experience giving back to our wider community ourselves by visiting the residents of Holmdene where we have read stories, shown our art and writing and even shown them our class blog. They are most interested in what we get up to at school and how things have changed since they went to school.
It has been a humbling experience to visit the residents and it seems we are all getting something out of our visits.
Good Sorts is a school-wide Inquiry topic, this is the slide we shared at Assembly last week.

Get NZ Writing Kit

This term we have been involved in a writing task called Get NZ Writing, we were posted a package that had a variety of tasks in it for us to complete for our buddy school. Our tasks were to complete a poster all about our class (some random information was needed like how many people can lick their elbow or waggle their ears), and we also had to complete postcards titled 'I am..' and were based around metaphors.

Today we received our mail from our buddy school 'Tunohopu 1' from Rotorua Intermediate. We have enjoyed reading their poems and finding out about their class. We also got some special gifts from them, two woven flax flowers and some Tibetan Prayer Flags. We have had heaps of fun learning about the history of the flags and hanging them up outside our classroom.
Thanks so much to Tunohopu 1, it's been fun!

The photos below are our posters that we sent to our buddy school.

School Camp 2017

Last week we packed up and went on an adventure of our lives creating memories that will stay with us forever by experiencing many once in a lifetime opportunities. We have about 2000 photos to choose from, so many awesome things to do in Fiordland. If you ever get the chance to go to Doubtful Sound we recommend that you make sure you get there.

Here is a piece of writing from Lucy:

I stare at the water, waiting. I know I must be patient, but I’m starting to grow bored. The wind bites at my skin, and makes my hair seem like it has a mind of its own. I watch, annoyed, as the sneaky fish take it in turns to dart forwards and nibble the bait. But they all fail to get hooked. I jerk it up and down as they swim forward, but it doesn’t work. There is still a little bait on my hook. One fish decides to be brave. But it wasn’t the best option. It swims forward and tries to grab the rest of the bait, but i pull the line up at just the right time. The hook gets caught in its skin, and it then realises it's in trouble. It won’t give up without a fight. It begins to struggle as I pull it up. Water sprays my face as the fish comes out into the air. It flips around for a few seconds, then stops. I wrap my hand around the fish to get the hook out. I grab the hook and pull it. It comes out. I decide to let the fish live, and lower it towards the water. It decides to get payback and bites my finger. I drop it in surprise. Whoops. The fish forgets how to swim. I watch as it sinks to the bottom.

NZ Writing from School Kit

We have had a busy two weeks completing our task for School Kit. Part of this project was to collect various things around our school to put on a poster to send to another school, this took longer than we expected as everyone has different ideas about what the best thing at our school is. We had to fill out google forms to make sure we had the majority of responses on our poster.

Another task was to write a poem titled 'I am..' using metaphors, this was very difficult in the beginning but once we got started we couldn't stop. Here is the slide to view all our poems, hope you enjoy!
